some info collected from RIPE database (the european ip number authority)

database data shown is in 'RPSL' format ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Routing_Policy_Specification_Language ) ; basically RIPE's way of organizing their information, which is different from ICANN (american ip adress authority) (so the whois command returns differently structured info depending on where an IP or organisation is registered…)

IP ranges

ripe is all about keeping track of ip address ranges, so tried those first – ripe database website has a searchtext (though it doesnt goes to search very deep, so it's difficult to get a full overview of things)

notice this IPv4 range's 'status' is 'assigned PA' : https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-733 which is an important detail for the operation of a shared datacenter, as neutrinet cannot specify an abuse-contact to a specific ip address (or range of ip-addresses)

reverse dns lookup

RIPE maintains the .arpa DNS domain to allow for reverse dns lookups;

some notes

RIPE checks dns server ip's

https://www.ripe.net/manage-ips-and-asns/db/support/configuring-reverse-dns

configure your DNS servers in such a way that you will pass all the tests that we will perform. Here are some recommendations to help you:

reverse lookup still lists wannes as contact;

don't know if WDS20-RIPE still reads his emails ? 🙂

but changing reverse ip info needs second nameserver up & running (in a different subnet..) / TODO: check wth tharyrok if i understood this correctly…
